Anthropic Extends Free Claude Fable 5 Offer Until July 12

Anthropic was hours away from cutting off free access to Claude Fable 5 when it reversed course.

The company had planned to move the model back to paid, usage-credit-only billing on July 7 or 8, but after visible pushback from subscribers who felt blindsided by how soon the free window was closing, it extended the promotional offer through July 12, 2026, at 11:59:59 PM PT. The terms haven’t changed, only the deadline has moved.

How to Access It, and What’s Actually Covered

The offer is available to Pro, Max, Team, and premium seats on eligible Enterprise plans. Eligible subscribers receive access automatically, so no activation is required.

Subscribers can use Fable 5 on Claude Web, Claude Desktop, Claude Mobile, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude Design, and Claude for Microsoft 365 and Teams.

On the web, desktop, and mobile apps, simply choose “Fable 5” from the model picker. Claude Code requires version 2.1.170 or later, while Cowork requires the latest Desktop build.

Legacy Enterprise plans include the offer only if the organization has enabled usage credits. The promotion does not cover API access . Anthropic bills API usage separately at its standard rates.

What Happens at the Usage Cap, and After July 12

The offer caps out at 50% of a subscriber’s normal weekly usage limit spent on Fable 5. Past that point, there are two options: buy usage credits to keep using Fable 5, or switch to another Claude model for the remainder of the week’s included usage.

That cap didn’t move with the extension, only the calendar did. Once July 12 passes, Fable 5 drops out of the standard weekly allowance entirely and reverts to pay-per-use billing through usage credits for everyone, including subscribers who never touched the free window.

The extension is worth reading as a reprieve rather than a change in direction. Anthropic has said it intends to bring Fable 5 back as a standard included benefit once it has enough serving capacity to support it, but hasn’t given a timeline for that.

For now, the practical takeaway for subscribers is straightforward: any workload built around Fable 5 this week is one that starts costing usage credits the moment the calendar flips to July 13.
