The pressure is compounding because Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are aggressively absorbing whatever mid-to-senior AI talent actually exists in the market. Looking ahead to FY26, the share of senior AI hiring at GCCs is projected to hit 77%, up from 60% in 2023.
Early-stage companies and homegrown startups simply cannot compete with the deep pockets and stability of these global tech hubs on salary alone.
Because of this intense market friction, venture capital firms are stepping directly into the recruitment trenches.
Investment partners operate under the reality that while a groundbreaking algorithm is the foundation of a DeepTech company, the engineers scaling that architecture dictate whether the business actually survives.
A founder might possess brilliant technical expertise, but scaling a commercial AI product requires a deeply specialized leadership team spanning complex engineering, product deployment, and operations.
Long-term investors are now leveraging their proprietary networks, acting as high-level headhunters, and physically helping their portfolio companies pull specialized talent away from established tech giants to keep their investments alive.
